Jennie's Cookie Bars (aka Mansion Squares)

1 cup margarine or butter 1 tsp baking powder

2 tsps vanilla extract 1/4 tsp baking soda

1-1/2 cups brown sugar, packed 1/4 tsp salt

2 eggs 1-12 oz pkg chocolate chips

2-1/2 cups flour 1 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped

  1. Cream margarine with vanilla. Add brown sugar, beating until very fluffy. Add eggs, and beat well.
  2. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt, mixing until blended. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts.
  3. Turn into greased 9"X13" pan. Bake at 375 degrees about 35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.
  4. While warm, cut into squares. Makes 24-32 cookies, depending on the size cut.
