Brooke's Apple Dumpling Gang

INGREDIENTS 3 granny smith apples (others work, but tart is best) 2 cans crescent dough 1/2 c. (1 stick) butter, plus more for greasing pan 1 c. brown sugar 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract Pinch kosher salt 3/4 c.lemon-lime soda DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 350° and grease a 9x13 dish with butter. Peel and core apples, cut or slice into 5-6 pieces. Separate crescent dough into triangles. Starting at the wider end, roll one apple slice up in a crescent triangle. Repeat with all. Place into prepared greased pan. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt (leave out if using salted butter) together. Pour mixture over apples. Pour soda around edge of pan, trying to avoid pouring on top of dumplings. Bake dumplings until golden, 30 minutes. Best when warm, a la mode, but good anytime!
